From time to time, at important moments, the Catholic Church calls her people into action. Right now it calls you and me to raise our voices against federal requirements in the Affordable Care Law requiring our church to provide abortion, contraception, and sterilization services even though they violate church teachings and beliefs. We do seek to tell anyone else what they should believe. Neither do we want anyone, especially government, to tell Catholics what we should believe. Some years ago in Baltimore, Blessed John Paul II said:
" The challenge...dear friends, is to increase people's awareness of the importance for society of religious freedom; to defend that freedom against those who would take religion out of public domain and establish secularism as America's official faith."
